You didn't need this, did you?

I know I said we have too many kids around already, but this is a bit drastic. "... man who woke up from bladder surgery only to find that doctors had amputated his penis without permission" (http://asia.reuters.com/newsArticle.jhtml?type=oddlyEnoughNews&storyID=3353264).

Jerkoffs wanted

"Should you be interested in applying as a sperm donor, contact us today." (http://www.babydonors.com/easypage_5.html). Please don't, folks. There are too many kids around as it is. Way too many. Especially loud and obnoxious ones.

Weird cellphone anecdote

Overheard while passing someone on my bike: "But if you know I have feelings for you, then you don't continue [tongue-kissing] that other girl". Actually, she used a slang word for tongue-kissing, but I'm a bit lacking in my English slang regarding that.

Antivirus stupidity

"Dear mrx@invalid.com.
Your e-mail with subject "hello" was blocked because we found a virus attached".

Interesting thing to receive. Problem is though, this virus (which they identified in the mail) is known for the fact that it uses the address of someone else (i.e. not the infected person) as the From: address. So folks, what's the use of telling me about this? Do you expect me to go and hunt down the one who is infected, smearing my name connecting it with a virus? That's exactly what I did ofcourse. I would imagine any antivirus corporation to understand that there is absolutely no use in telling mrx that some mystery person is sending out infected mails. This reminds me of the time spammers used my address to send out spam and I got a bunch of bounces.

Collecting frequent flyer miles, the alternative way

Damn, I lost the link to the original story. I hate it when that happens. There was this airline employee, who illegally transferred people's unused flyer miles to his own account. This way, he managed to collect enough miles for many trips over years, for himself and his family. Here I am, just getting close to my second free flight, accumulated over three years ... I knew I was doing something wrong.

Kleenex stock

I should've bought stocks/shares of Kleenex. At the rate I've been using them today, I would've made a major profit.

Trouble always happens at night

Well, I should be used to that. Thankfully though, it's not really trouble for me. I sort of "pride" myself in using protection. Being careful not to catch anything. No, I'm not talking STD here, but a computer virus. So far, I haven't noticed that I had one, so I still think I'm safe. The drawback to this, is that I'm not really in the know about anti-virus stuff, because I have always been happy with my setup. Norton AV, ZoneAlarm. Works like a charm. I try to get people around me to start using a virusscanner and a firewall too. Doesn't matter much which one, just use one folks. It'll save you a lot of aggrevation. But tonight was one of those "a friend of a friend" things, where someone calls me, looking for a virusscanner that preferably runs from floppy (remember those?) or cd. I have to admit I don't know any by heart, so if anyone knows one, feel free to let me know. I should stop trying to help other people. Even though my computer is still clean, I still end up looking for solutions to viruses ... ironic.

Sunday night shopping therapy

Decisions. I've never been good at those. This is why I've been debating for weeks now. Do I need a second vcr or dvd to use upstairs? Will I be watching stuff I taped while working upstairs, or am I more likely to watch a movie on dvd? Hm. Decisions, decisions. With big decisions, this is what usually happens: I go back and forth for days, if not weeks (hell, sometimes months). Then, suddenly, I decide. Same thing tonight. Still took me an hour to actually order it, but I did. Well, technically it wasn't make a choice between the two, since I decided to get both ... can't be too safe. I should probably feel good about having to work tomorrow. Gives me a chance to "earn back" some of what I just wasted.

Spam that makes me go "duh!"

I keep getting spam with subjects like "you blocked my ICQ" or "you deleted my e-mail". Can't these people take a hint? Pay attention folks. If I do actually block your ICQ, or delete your mail, that means I am not interested in talking to you ... duh!

Starting

So, let's see how this will turn out. "Nocturnal Musings", because I have a feeling that I'll be mostly adding content at night. Early evening, or way beyond. A blog ... I never thought I would do this. I like text though, text is good. Text is distant. Safe. The illusion of communication. For all I know, this is just a cry in the dark.
